Greece Wins Two Awards In Chinese Expo

The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) was honored with two awards at CITE 2013 – China (Guangdong) International Tourism Industry Expo 2013, held in Guangzhou, capital of south China’s Guangdong Province, from 30 August to 1 September 2013.

According to a press release by the Greek Tourism Ministry, GNTO received an award for the “best booth design” and an award for the “best organizing team.”

The GNTO participated in CITE 2013 with a booth measuring 72 square meters that hosted five Greek co-exhibitors.

The organization participated in the Chinese exhibition to further support Greece’s presence in the Chinese tourism market.

Chinese travelers were found to spend more on their international travels than any other holidaymakers, according to the UNWTO. Last year they surpassed the Germans and Americans.

In 2012, Chinese tourists spent some 77 billion euros, 40 percent more than they did in 2011.

According to the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE), Greece received some 100,000 of the 83 million Chinese that traveled abroad on holiday last year.

SETE told the Greek newspaper Kathimerini that 100,000 is about average for this year as well.
